MOT NEW TESTER CLASS 4&7
The MOT New Tester Course (Class 4 & 7) is designed for experienced vehicle technicians who want to become DVSA-approved MOT testers. Covering the procedures, standards, and legal responsibilities involved in testing Class 4 and 7 vehicles, the course combines theory with practical assessment. Successful candidates will be qualified to carry out MOT tests in accordance with DVSA regulations.
Description
This DVSA-approved MOT New Tester course is designed for qualified vehicle technicians who wish to become authorised MOT testers for Class 4 and 7 vehicles (cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles). The course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to carry out MOT tests in compliance with current DVSA standards.
Delivered through a blend of classroom-based learning and hands-on assessment, this course covers the legal and procedural responsibilities of an MOT tester, as well as detailed inspection routines and use of MOT testing equipment.
Delivery Model :
• 6 hours pre-course online Training - this will be sent via email.
• 3 Days Training at S&B Academy
• 1 Day assessment
The assessment day will be either on the Thursday or Friday following the course and this will be allocated on booking on a first come first served basis.

Once your training has been completed you will be able to apply to the DVSA to become an authorised MOT tester.
Eligibility
REQUIREMENTS
A copy of your level 3 light vehicle inspection certificate.
- A completed tester liability form, which will need to include a case sensitive licence check code for S&B to process (this code can be found through the following GOV website https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence). This code is for one time use only, please do not carry out the check yourself.
To take an MOT testing course you must:
- have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test
- be a skilled mechanic with at least 4 years’ full-time employment servicing and repairing the types of vehicles you’re going to test
- have no unspent convictions for criminal offences
- be ‘of good repute’ - the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency will decide this to make sure you’re suitable to be an MOT tester
- and to become a MOT Tester for class 3, 4, 5 or 7 vehicles they must also have an ‘appropriate’ qualification. Check the full list of accepted qualifications and accreditations.
